Agent readiness vs AEO: what happens after an agent finds you
Visibility gets you mentioned. Readiness decides whether the agent can do anything next.

Answer
AEO and GEO are about appearing in AI answers: citations, mentions and rankings. Agent readiness starts after discovery: can the agent read your pricing correctly, recommend the right plan, find a feature in your docs and complete a demo request or checkout? They are different problems with different tools, and a readiness score does not explain how often you appear in AI answers.

1.What do AEO and GEO measure?
Answer engine optimisation (AEO) and generative engine optimisation (GEO) aim to make a brand appear, and appear accurately, in answers from AI assistants and AI search. Their tools track prompts, mentions, citations and share of answers across models.
2.What does agent readiness measure?
Whether an agent that has reached your site can use it. The checks are practical: server-rendered pricing, an accurate llms.txt, readable plan limits, labelled forms, an MCP server for API tasks, and bot rules that let the right agents in. See the checklist.
3.How do the two connect?
Visibility creates the chance; readiness decides whether the agent can act on it. An assistant that cites you but then cannot read your pricing page may quote an outdated third-party price, recommend the wrong plan, or stop before the sign-up step. That is a readiness failure, even with strong visibility.
Note
4.Which tools cover which side?
AEO and GEO tools measure visibility in AI answers; we do not cover them on this site. Readiness tools test or fix the agent experience: ora.ai (testing across discovery, access, usability and payments), Cloudflare (edge fixes plus a scanner), Vercel (verified bots, MCP hosting, and is-agentic.com with ora.ai) and nekuda (WebMCP tools). See tools by job.
5.What should a growth or marketing team test first?
- Can an agent find and accurately explain our pricing?
- Can it recommend the right plan for a specific requirement?
- Can it find the documentation or feature page that answers a buyer's question?
- Can it complete a demo request or the next step we care about?
Run each as a task with a real agent, note where it fails, fix, and run it again after the next release.
Frequently asked questions
Is agent readiness part of AEO?
They are related but different. AEO is about being mentioned in AI answers. Agent readiness is about what an agent can do once it reaches your site.
Does a high readiness score improve AI visibility?
We have seen no public evidence that it does, and readiness scores are not designed to measure visibility. Treat them as separate measurements.
